The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
