The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
