The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
