Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "during the day".

The concluding match of the series at the SCG begins this coming Sunday.

The English side has already lost strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 with the bat as one of just three England players to get into double digits.

Post a single over late on the first day, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of that over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match having missed of the third.
